Questions:

1. What issues surrounded the Amistad case? Under what grounds or accusations were the Amistad slaves tried? Which parties claimed ownership of the Amistad “slaves” and what were the grounds for their claim?

2. Identify the ff. characters and their role in the Amistad trial:

g. Martin Van Buren
h. Senator John Calhun

3. Why was the case brought up to the Supreme Court of America? What was the political interest of Van Buren’s administration over the Amistad? What was the connection between the Amistad case and the abolitionist cause? Explain the connection of the Amistad case and the American civil war.

Bonus:
Write a brief history of slavery and make a case for or against slavery. Include your references. (Due week after achievement test)

Choose one of the two tasks:
1. Make a sketch/drawing of a scene in the film that struck you the most and at the back (or on another sheet) explain the scene, the story behind it, and its impact on you.
2. Express what freedom means to you through a drawing/art work. At the back (or on a different sheet of paper) explain how freedom as an idea was tackled in the movie and compare it with your concept and experience of freedom.
